The firm of Osborne & Fonte and its antecedents date to the 1930's, and currently consists of two attorneys, a paralegal, and support staff. We are, conveniently located southwest of Boston near Route One in Dedham, Massachusetts, and provide a full range of legal services to businesses, individuals, and families.
Reuben H. Klainer founded the firm in the 1930's and developed a practice based upon serving the needs of small businesses as well as those of the business owners and their families. The range of business services included commercial litigation, corporate organization, assistance with day-to-day business operations, collection of accounts receivable, and the purchase, sale, and leasing of real estate and equipment. The individual business owners and operators received assistance in areas such as buying and selling their homes and planning their estates.
Andrew M. Osborne joined Mr. Klainer in 1978, and Mr. Klainer retired in 1980 after celebrating more than fifty years as a practicing attorney. During the 1980's, Andrew continued the practice that had been developed, and he expanded his representation of individuals and companies in bankruptcy proceedings. Following changes to the Perishable Agricultural Commodities Act in the 1980's and 1990's, Attorney Osborne added the prosecution and defense of claims under this statute. Since his introduction to art and artisanry of woodturning in 2001, he has been providing legal counsel to artists and their businesses.
David Fonte joined Andrew Osborne in 1999 and brought with him not only additional expertise in the practices areas served by the firm, but also a hands-on ethic in assisting clients facing bankruptcy and a personal style and willingness to listen that facilitate negotiation, cooperation, settlement, and, ultimately, satisfaction in litigated matters.
Elaine Boyd has been with the firm for more than twenty years. She manages the debtor relations, clerical and financial accounting portions of the firm’s collection practice.
For many consumers, bankruptcy has become an avenue of last resort. The firm helps individuals and couples end their fiscal nightmares by assisting them in navigating the Bankruptcy Code and filing for bankruptcy protection under Chapter 7 or Chapter 13. Bankruptcy is not always the best solution to financial woes, however, and we consider not only the immediacy of our clients’ needs for relief but also their long-term fiscal well-being. We carefully examine not only their current financial picture but also their expected future earnings and expenses and the likely results of alternative courses of action. The firm’s attorneys are members of the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys (“NACBA”).
Our Attorneys appear regularly in the Massachusetts State courts and in the Federal Courts, including the Bankruptcy Court, in eastern Massachusetts. Attorney Osborne appears pro hac vice in other courts throughout New England. The firm maintains an ongoing relationship with co-counsel and corresponding counsel in other states during the pendency of the case to better represent our clients in Massachusetts. In addition to our representation of many individuals and small business owners, we have also represented numerous local and national companies in commercial collection matters, litigating their claims in state and federal courts and in the Bankruptcy Court.
